So much of my belief has changed in the last four years. In terms of belief in things of Most Importance – I could go so far as to say that it has very nearly all changed.
Most of us reach a point in our journey where the search for “truth” becomes predominant. We search for a foundation upon which our belief is formed. I have seen, however, that for the majority, this search is shallow. I don’t mean that with judgement – I simply am pointing out that our “truth” is often what we were told it should be, or is. It was heard and easily believed, without testing or question. It was something we inherited, something passed down to us – ingested into ourselves like babies take processed food from the hand of their Mommy’s.
In this way, “truth” to us is subjective (personalized), without much effort into examining if what we’ve received as this “truth” is Objective – the Really Real. Ultimately, this leads to a belief that is on shifting sand. Unbelief.
I’ve said before that we all believe in something, or someone. The crucial question is what, or who. For years, I had “belief,” but it was not in the Real Truth. This was no one’s fault. In fact, I am thankful for, and appreciative of the journey through belief in the un-real (unbelief) – on the way toward seeing and believing more of the Objective Reality of Truth. It all belongs. Even now, I understand that the rest of my days, especially if fruitful, will be a continual process of unlearning that which I had previously believed to be true – along the Way toward a deeper, newer vision of what Is. This is part of what it means to walk the Path with Jesus. This is the process of becoming less, so that He is seen as More.
Here is where I am going with this wondering – Truth, the Really Real, Objective Truth – has forever been, Is, and always Will Be. Truth never changes. It simply, and magnificently, Is. Truth, indwells within me. In fact, I (and all mankind) are included in Truth, and have been from before the foundation of the world. We are One with Truth. Truth is the present and eternal Reality within.
Our “belief” is not always connected to our agreement (or not) with this, as Real Truth. Instead, we form all kinds of “belief” around all kinds of other “truth’s,” many of which are especially religious. In this way, it seems that the “formula” for much of spirituality has been either:
Believe –> Then, you will See –> Then, you will know Truth
See –> Then, you can Believe –> What is Truth
But here is what I am beginning to, ahem, “See”:
Seeing –> un-truth/Truth –> (un)belief/Belief
The way in which we “see,” or perceive, either veils us from Truth, or illuminates Truth. If we are seeing naturally, we tend to “see” with veiled “eyes.” What we see from those eyes as “truth” is actually an un-Truth, an anti-Reality. Nevertheless, we can absolutely, and do, form a belief around this un-Truth. This is unbelief.
However, having the “eyes of our hearts” opened, illuminates the Truth that was always within, which then regenerates Belief in that Truth.
When we think and perceive and see dualistically, Truth is something or someone to go get, or obtain, or find – in other words, separate from us – and leads to the bondages of unbelief, often masked in religiosity. However, “eyes of faith” see that we are already, eternally One with Truth – there is no separation – and Belief is Lived out, manifesting effortless Fruit.
Truth is always an inward journey, realized along a Path of letting go of all that we have “believed” to be “truth” before. Truth is found at the Center, the Core, of who we already, always were. Seeing this, changes what we “Believe,” and everything else.
The Truth is that Jesus finished it all. His Life and the Kingdom of God are the Truth, the fullness of which dwell within. The Kingdom “has come” and “is within.” When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He included the indication of what was about to happen with, “thy Kingdom come.” The will of the Father to “be done” is now for all of His children to “See” what is done. He is after open “eyes.”
In so many ways, I now “see” the “return of Jesus” as the awakening, through spiritual vision, of all mankind “seeing” that He has come! He is within and One with all of us. He Lives, incarnate today.
The eyes of the body and soul must be closed. The eyes of the Spirit must be wide open.
There is no new Truth. Revelation is but having the mind of Christ to perceive what has eternally been revealed, already. Seeing with His eyes is the Light upon which Real, Objective Truth becomes the lens through which Belief is formed, and more importantly, Lived. The revealing of the Sons of God into the earth becomes a walking Testimony of a Life Lived from vision through this Truth.
The essence of Faith is moving into the Truth within, trusting newfound and developing Sight, in order to eventually have Belief rearranged.
In so many ways, our “Salvation” is the continual, lifelong process of having our Vision corrected. What Good News! How much more Loving we might be, how much more Joy we might manifest – if “evangelism” and “discipleship” are no more efforts to move people into something we have perceived them to not be – but rather, from Seeing, helping others See better too. We would no longer need to change the minds and beliefs and doctrines, and dogmas of anyone else. We would simply offer them the opportunity to “See” Truth (God, Jesus, Love, the Kingdom), and themselves in Light of that Truth within. All else that they would need to then see (Belief), would happen effortlessly from there. And it wouldn’t be us doing that work, but Another.
Jesus said the “lamp of the body is the eye; if your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with Light.” What you “see” really is what you believe, and more, what you experience. The Objective Truth becomes your subjective, personal Reality when seen in the Right Light. The Objective and the subjective find Oneness in this Mystery.
If you “see” Truth, you will believe and Live and Be Truth. If you “see” anti-Truth, you will have unbelief, and live a lie.
