When resting in the Victory that is ours in Christ, there is an intentional lack of independence. This Freedom in Him has nothing to do with our own merit, work, efforts, or ability. It has nothing to do with our control. In fact, Freedom is received as a reality in our hearts when we come to a place of losing control – of being fully dependent.
In stepping through The Gate we must drop our baggage of control, perfectionism and independence at the threshold, and never pick them back up.
The irony of this dependence is that when it is placed in the hands of He who holds the universe – no enemy of any kind can influence this Freedom, including Self. It is not circumstantial. It is not testified to by our feelings. It is not provided for by any institution (such as church, government, etc.). It is not found in striving to be perfect, but in Him who is Perfect.
To be Free is to be dependent. To be Free is to lay down our perfectionism and desire to control. When we seek to be independent, we wrestle away that which God does not have for us to hold, and Freedom is compromised.
Freedom is realized In Dependence.
