I have a dream.
My Dream… is Jesus.
I have a dream that the Church comes alive. That It is awakened to the power and purpose that has been sealed in It from before time.
I have a dream that the Church’s enemy is no longer glorified and given more attention than he deserves, but instead is acknowledged, as a defeated foe, and as lacking power over those who walk victorious.
I have a dream that the Church walks free – recognizing that It is no longer bound by the power of sin and death.
I have a dream of flesh and wills and bodies being crucified daily – so that the Life of Another may gloriously Live.
I have a dream that Jesus Christ is revealed in your life, and in mine – in Love and Power and Signs and Wonders.
I have a dream that eternity is received and lived in, now, as a rightful inheritance in the Lord.
I have a dream that time and money and resources – and everything else – are no longer excuses for the Church. That, since eternity and His Life and His Kingdom are It’s too, in Him, and since He is outside of time and limitless in His provision – any excuse is really just unbelief.
I have a dream that radical belief leads to radical action leads to radical revelations of Heaven on Earth. Then, I have a dream that “radical” gets lost from our vernacular – as “radical” is just kinda the “normal” way of Life God intends for His Church.
I have a dream that Pentecost is released into our time. Except, in this dream, it’s more. Pentecost came, and went, almost 2000 years ago. It should be relatively boring by progressive comparison by now.
I have a dream that the Gospel is preached – by Lives Living Jesus first – and with words only when necessary.
I have a dream that “religion” is dealt a swift death.
I have a dream that fear and guilt and shame are replaced by Life and Love and Hope as motivations to receive Jesus.
I have a dream that Jesus is no longer an insurance policy against Hell, or trumpeted as a ticket out of the fiery furnace – but that He is instead revealed in Grace and Glory and Beauty – to a Life, on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
I have a dream of a Church that meets without walls. Sure, sometimes It may gather in expressions that happen to be inside structures with erected walls. But in my dream, It doesn’t Live like that. There are no boundaries, no rules, no restrictions…the earth is It’s Church, and It reveals It’s Life everywhere It gathers and goes.
I have a dream of a Church that meets in as many varied and diverse and beautiful expressions as possible. Golf course Church on Sunday morning. Beach Church Thursday at dawn. Bar Church on Wednesday at Happy Hour. Board Room Church on Monday morning. Library Church in school. Half-court Church in the gym. I have a dream that every Starbucks is transformed into the Church every day, all day. Church in your living room. Church in your bedroom, under the sheets with your spouse. Church across your street. Church in your office. Church in your carpool. Church in the mall. I have a dream that the world is the Church, and the Church meets in the world.
I have a dream where Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights are no more special or ordained than the other 165 hours in the week.
I have a dream where denominations die. There is only Christ.
I have a dream where there is no such thing as “Christians” and “non-Christians” (or worse, “unchurched,” “unbelievers,” “outsiders,” or… “them”). There is only chosen and predestined and dearly loved creations of God – some of whom have already received their destiny by faith in Christ, “followers of Jesus” – and some of whom have not…yet. I have a dream where all are welcome, and it’s more than a slogan.
I have a dream where misfits and liars and people with baggage and junk – the least of these – have a place at the head of the table.
I have a dream where “mission” isn’t a trip we take once in a lifetime or an emotional experience that makes us feel better – but that it is our mandate, our calling, our passion, our Life. I have a dream that this mission is lived out across the street and around the world.
I have a dream that followers of Jesus abide in Him daily, drinking from His Stream, eating of His Bread and Living His Life. I have a dream that these same disciples gather with other disciples who have also individually been abiding and drinking and eating and Living. I have a dream that when they gather, there is no agenda. There is no order of service. There is no pre-planned teachings or sermons or hymn numbers or set-lists. There is only Christ. Jesus is the agenda. Jesus is the order. Jesus teaches, and is taught as the Holy Spirit guides. Jesus is the song that is sung and the lyric that is written. He is revealed. He is glorified. He is manifested in the earth. There is only Christ.
I have a dream that every member of a local expression of the Divine Life of Christ, Church, is mutually participating, and mutually edified. Jesus is seen and learned of in each member, and is given from each member to another. There is no leader, only Christ. There is no governing body of exclusive decision makers, only Christ. There is no clergy. There is no laity. Only Christ, and His followers – the Holy Priesthood of the Lord, all equally Kings and Priests and Ministers unto Him.
I have a dream that Jesus is viral. His Life is so pervasive, so completely transformative, so totally new, so exquisitely intoxicating in His followers – that a hungry and watching world is powerless against the allure of the aroma of these walking testimonies.
I have a dream about a Garden. We are fully naked. We are unashamed. We walk in the cool of the day with our Lord. We know and experience His Love continually, never doubting, never fearing. The Garden is Eden, but more. The Garden is here, on Earth. Heaven is here too. There is no separation. Gradually, progressively, our old conception of earth blended into and was overshadowed by the reality of a Kingdom, a Kingdom that always was – and was gradually and progressively revealed and received – until only the Kingdom remained, until only It’s King was sought, and the memory of the old Earth was but a fragment.
I have a dream about a House. It is glorious. It is rich. It is majestic in It’s splendor. The God of the Universe finds rest there, and makes It His Home. He finds It content in which to lay His Head. This House is you. This House is me. We are fitted together as living stones, a Temple of the Lord.
I have a dream about a Family. This Family celebrates and sings and dances and feasts and banquets together. Everyone has a place at the table. Everyone has a special name. We are all Brothers and Sisters, with One Daddy, and One Firstborn Brother, Jesus.
I have a dream about a Body. This Body expresses the Life within it. Each part is invaluable. Each part is dependent on every other part. Each part lives and moves and finds it’s being in the Head. Each part responds to the Head, points to the Head, glorifies the Head, and proclaims the Life of the Head into the world.
I have a dream about a Bride. She is glorious in Her splendor and beauty. She is radiant. She is astonishing in Her Be-ing and knowing of who She is, and Whose She is. Her Beauty has been restored, and is on full display.
I have a dream.
My Dream is Jesus.
God has a Dream too. And you know what?…
…God’s Dream is Jesus.
