The anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.“ – Romans 8:19
The Lord, along with all of His creation, is awaiting the time where the Sons of God are revealed.
This is mostly viewed with an eye toward Future Things. But, like so much that is deeply spiritual, I believe that this is also for now, for those who are still and quiet enough to see it. The Lord waits, not to reveal His Sons, but for His Sons to see that they have been revealed – and to Live accordingly.
The Sons of God are those who have reached full stature. They are fully grown. Mature. They are not so much at this place because they worked for it. They are not this because of age. They are not this because of length of time walking with the Lord. No, the Sons of God spoken of here are such, because – all along, Maturity was happening to them – and they hindered Him not.
It is the desire of Father for all of His Sons (and of course, throughout this, I mean “Sons” inclusive of male and female) to obtain this measure of growth. All are called. All are chosen. All are anointed and poured out upon. The whosoever’s will – are those who see their roots plunge deep and their canopy of branch grow wide and tall.
We see a picture of the kind of growth this Sonship entails in the natural:
- Infants only know enough to express their need – to eat, to sleep, to be comforted, to be clean.
- Toddlers reach a point of knowing who Mommy and Daddy are, enough so that they recognize their parent’s authority and find comfort and their needs through it – while also beginning to test it’s limits.
- Teens and young adults, after some usual rebellion and misunderstanding, ideally reach a place of respect and honor for their parents, while transitioning into providing for and caring for their own needs and wants.
- Fully mature adults share a likeness with their equally adult parents. Experiences, wisdom and life are shared more co-equally and mutually. There is no lording over, only loving togetherness.
In a similar way, we are to grow and develop as followers of Christ. See how John saw the saints in 1 John 2, for example.
Most of us are born again as “little children.” We recognize our need for a Savior, and gladly receive the Gift and the Blessing that He is. The posture toward God is on a level of that which concerns our own blessings and gains. The overwhelming attitude is of what can be received from God. Little children are Salvation-oriented, Heaven-looking and relate to Father with themselves at the center. Children are in the House of God, a member of the Family, but could never be entrusted with the Inheritance. They are easily tossed by the waves of sin, controlled by the Self and easily swayed from Truth.
Little children mature into “young men” who begin to relate to the Nature and Goodness and Sovereignty of Father. They begin to model after Him. They know their sins are forgiven, and further, begin to exercise dominion in overcoming the wicked one. The overwhelming attitude is what can be done for God. They grow in wisdom and stature, favor and grace rapidly. They also, however, test their independence. Young men begin to receive the blessing of Father, and to appropriate it in Life. The Kingdom of God is opening up to the young man, as he (she) stewards His Father’s Business, that which Father has entrusted him with. Young men begin to see more than just getting to Heaven – they see glimpses of a bringing forth of Heaven into the now.
Sons of God have grown up. Father is no longer seen in a begetting way, and is even seen as more than an honoring way. Sons reach a place of receiving their oneness and unity in and with Father. His nature is now our nature. His mind, our mind. His heart, our heart. His will, our will. The overwhelming attitude is being with and in Father, and participating in His Purpose. Sons Live and move and find their being in a direct, never-ending, ever-increasing Love fellowship with Father. His Life is their Source. Christ is not only Savior, He is Lord. Trust is the gateway to the privilege of expressing Father’s own Life. Sons recognize having been seated with Him from the beginning, and their journey taken toward receiving this recognition. Doing is replaced by being – and Being becomes putting on the Fatherhood of God Himself – into the earth. As spiritual “fathers,” Sons express the Father Heart of God – not working for Him, but allowing His Life to work through them, in Divine Partnership. Heaven is now for Sons of God, and they express It’s rule and reign into every relationship and atmosphere they are in. They are One with the King in the Kingdom of God, and thus embody the full Inheritance.
Why is this important to see?
Far too many of the children of God are willfully or ignorantly choosing to remain as such – children – in every expression of the phase. Too many of God’s people are like “adults” in the natural, who only drink milk that is fed to them.
For the Kingdom of God to cover the earth, the Sons of God must be revealed – first in their inner-most of what is already within – and next as outward expressions of God’s Life and Kingdom.
It is good to be as children and trust in Father for all of our needs. It is good to begin on milk and to start from a child-like posture of trust and submission. It is better when children mature into young men who begin to imitate their Father and eat of meat.
It is best, however – the Father’s Intention, in fact – for all of His Sons to be fully grown up, to reach their complete stature in the Divine sharing of His own Life, the Ultimate Feast. This is what it means to be a Son. This is what it means to rule and reign in His Kingdom.
This is what God Himself, and all of creation is awaiting being revealed.
Let the Sons of God see themselves as such – and then… be seen.
